AFP – Global warming and changes to the Pacific ecosystem could be limiting the recovery of the Pacific gray whale and suggest permanent damage done by overfishing, scientists said in a new study Monday.

Just when you think it can’t possibly get any worse—well, it does. The Greenland ice cap is apparently melting so quickly that it is triggering earthquakes, as pieces of ice several cubic kilometers in size break off.

I’m a vegetarian, but I’m also a Cornell graduate and I’ve learned that hunting, when done according to the law, definitely helps keep certain animal populations in check (usually due to human interference – construction, deforestation, etc). Trimming over population keeps certain animals (deer, bears, etc.) from starvation and coming into “human” populated areas.
AP – Hunters remain a powerful force in American society, as evidenced by the presidential candidates who routinely pay them homage, but their ranks are shrinking dramatically and wildlife agencies worry increasingly about the loss of sorely needed license-fee revenue.

AP – Climate change could worsen Africa’s struggle to feed itself, but simple steps ? a cistern to catch rainwater, a solar panel, or hardier seeds for crops ? could help the continent’s subsistence farms, specialists and activists said Friday.
